About the Job

We’re looking for an experienced Communication Engineer –Tactical Robotics (m/f/d) to join one of our clients and develop its Engineering strategies. In your day to day work, you’ll focus on streamlining the communication capabilities across our robotic systems, ensuring superior, secure, and robust long-range control and data transmission in both lab and field environments. You’ll be selecting and integrating cutting-edge communication hardware and optimizing software configurations to maximize performance and operational readiness. Our client is a German dual-use technology company, a trailblazer in unmanned ground vehicles designed for both governmental and civilian use, offering a shaping role in an emerging company with an innovative, international, and dynamic team.

 

In this role, you’ll:

  • Design and implement robust communication stacks for long-range, mobile, and ruggedized robotic deployments.
  • Select and integrate advanced radio technologies including LTE/4G/5G, LoRa, WiFi, Starlink, tactical radios, and SATCOM.
  • Develop and maintain mesh networks and relay strategies to extend operational range and ensure redundancy.
  • Optimize antenna configurations and placements to address diverse terrains and mobility challenges.
  • Own the end-to-end testing and validation of communication systems under real-world conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with software, hardware, and cybersecurity teams to ensure seamless, secure integration.
  • Document configuration guidelines and standardize deployment procedures across products and regions.

Your Profile

  • Proven track record in designing, configuring, and maintaining communication systems in tactical, robotics, defense, or unmanned vehicle environments.
  • Deep knowledge of radio frequency theory, IP networking (TCP/UDP, routing, NAT, VPN), and wireless technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with tactical radios, LTE modems, VPNs, Starlink, and relay nodes.
  • Proficiency with Linux networking tools and a solid understanding of embedded and robotic systems.
  • Familiarity with mobile antennas, link budgeting, and radio propagation modeling.
  • Experience with security protocols, encrypted communications, and certificate/key-based authentication.
  • Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and systems thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English is a must; German is a plus. 

Please note that we are looking for support in the Munich office of our portfolio company. Eligibility to work within the EU is required as well.
